Duels dates cancelled - The North mourns

3 December 2006

stuffy/the fuses are very sad to announce that the DUELS support dates have been cancelled.

James Kenosha, the drummer with DUELS, has sprained a tendon in his arm and therefore not be able to honour the tour. This also means that logistically we have to cancel the Newscastle show also. We apologies to those of you who may have bought tickets in advance for these dates. Refunds are available from the point of purchase.

All other dates on the tour are still happening. Brakes are still perfectly fit and the chances of Bury St. Edmunds getting a twisted ankle before December the 16th are marginal to nil.

Pop Fact: stuffy offered his services to DUELS for the tour but all he heard was background laughter, a click and then the dialing tone.

Kelvin, where did you put that thermometer?

28 November 2006

Why not puruse our wares at the shop now?

The Apes of Wrathstonbury

4 October 2006

Details and line up have emerged for this coming Saturday's Wrathstonbury all day festival at Brundell Social Club in Leeds, Yorkshire.

The event, in aid of Oxjam music festival features great stuffy/the fuses stablemates such as The Scaramanga Six, Napoleon III & Being 747. Doors are 1pm, Price: £7 on the door or £6 advance from here:

Just in case you had to do some shopping beforehand and you can't make the whole day's proceedings, sources say there's a strong suspicion that stuffy/the fuses will be appearing towards the top of the bill.

The Wrath lot are putting together a CD compilation featuring as many of the bands as possible. This will be sold on the day for about a fiver and all proceeds will go to Oxjam to help bolster the amount raised by the day.

stuffy/the fuses have supplied a brand spanking new track for this compilation. It's called "Hide Your High Horse" and it's sounds like "Minor Place" by Bonnie Prince Billy then it sounds like "The Crunch" by The Rah Band and then Bonnie Prince Billy again.

Jen Fuse vs. The Ut Metal Queens

17 July 2006

Jen gets a heafty mention and cap doff from legendary post punk art queens Ut in this interview for warped reality magazine. "Finally, I get the recognition I deserve. Now get my fucking lunch" Jen was heard to mumble into her Gin.

The drummer in my band Quint (Stuffy) has since formed a band called The Fuses in which there's a girl guitarist named Jen Macro who is how I'd imagined girls to be in bands by the 21st century. She's a fantastic guitar player, completely natural (dresses like she's hanging out in her living room), yet has a great presence and exudes both toughness and vulnerability.

You can just tell she's up there thinking about the music and her singing and guitar playing and making it happen. There's no other agenda. It's pure substance rather than appearance. She's definitely the kind of girl who should be a role model for other girls who want to be in bands. Every time I see her, I find her an inspiration.

There are others like her, just not enough. A lot of girls either vie for center of attention as the diva, so to speak, or take a meek decorative background role. It's inspiring to see a band where it feels like the gender doesn't matter.

Important News: The End of an Earache

28 June 2006

An announcement follows:

“Hello. It's Choppper. I don't appear in cyberspace that often. Today it's to let you know that I'm leaving the Fuses.

It's been a pleasure to share a stage, a van, and occasionally a press-on towel with Stuffy, Jen and Jon. As some of you'll know, I've had creative tamperings with them all for well over ten years. After that long, there's a connection on stage, unspoken support, you can really concentrate on performing the song, not just playing the parts. If you've seen us, I hope you've appreciated some of the strange and wonderful chemistries.

There's some stuff that I have to work on intensely at the moment, to establish what I am, and where I'm going. I know that the Fuses will go from strength to strength, they made me love synths all over again.

Thank you everyone who's been to see us. I loved playing for you. May your glass never be empty.

Yes, that's it. Chopper is leaving us for pastures new. Yet another Keyboard player to add to the collection. May we at least be thankfull that none of them have exploded and all have been kept as close confidents. Stevie, Doc and now Chopper Fuse. All fine keyboard Smiths but as with all fine keyboard smithies their is a shortage and they are always in demand so it's with a fat, morbidly obese heart that we say bye-bye. However, there will be achance to see Chopper at least one more time as, unlike with previous ivory strokers before his time, he will get a farewell show - July 11th @ Ryans Bar, Stoke Newington, London.

Infact this Friday's gig will be the LAST with the current line-up as Jon Fuse is not around for our July 11th show. There will be a synth bass in his place for that gig provided by Chopper's successor. Oh yes, what better way to pass the batton than to do it in live gig form. Therefore we are very pleased to announce the arrival of our latest member.

Lucy Fuse

I trust you will all welcome her with open arms, she doesn't have the easiest of shoes to fill but with thick socks and a can do attitude she will surely shine like a fucking big star. Three cheers for this plucky lass.

stuffy/the fuses of south london - friends since for ever but only just in a band together. first album "join me or die" almost recorded on his own by stuffy with Owen Turner (Magoo)but soon it brought together the fuses.

Been travelling the country (uk) upwards and downwards playing the songs and gaining radio appreciation from many including the late, great John Peel, Steve Lamacq and Marc "Lard" Reily (all courtersy of radio 1).

Recorded a session for the Peel show which was aired on Huw Stephen's new onemusic show. this was followed by the band entering the studio to record album *2 with steve albini (shellac mainmain and recorder of jesus lizard, pixies, mclusky amongst others). it sounds ace.
